Entering service in March 2004, Diamond Princess is the second member of Princess Cruises ‘Gem Class’ of liners, a modified version of their ‘Grand Class’. Although very similar to her Grand Class cousins, the main design difference is that there is no ‘rear spoiler’ as the Skywalkers nightclub has been relocated to just behind the funnel, rather than suspended over the stern. As with all Princess ships Diamond Princess is specifically built for Princess’ Personal Choice cruising and offers a wide variety of options for dining, relaxation and fun for every member of the family. more info ›
There are seven restaurants onboard including four dining rooms for Anytime Dining, the International dining room for Traditional dining plus a speciality Italian restaurant and a speciality Steakhouse. In addition there is a casual buffet-style café, pizzeria and hamburger grill. After dinner entertainment options abound with a wide variety of bars and lounges to choose from including the fantastic Wake View Bar plus a huge casino and a large theatre for nightly Broadway and Las Vegas-style productions. In terms of recreation she has four swimming pools as well as a kid’s splash pool and a swim-against-the-current lap pool. One pool is housed in an all-weather conservatory with a sliding glass roof. She also has an ocean view fitness centre, sports court, nine-hole mini-golf course, two golf simulators, a jogging track and a dedicated indoor/outdoor teens' and children's area plus much more. For relaxation the Asian-themed Lotus Spa offers a complete escape. As yet Diamond Princess does not feature the 'Movies Under the Stars' theatre but it is due to be added in late 2010.
In keeping with Princess Cruises ‘more balconies than any other cruise line’ tag, Diamond Princess has no less than 750 staterooms with a private balcony making her ideal for scenery rich cruising in Alaska where she mostly spends the summer months.
