Skagway

Skagway blossomed in 1897 and 1898 as the jumping off point for the Klondike and the Gold Rush and much of Skagway remains looking much as it did then – visit the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic District or take a ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route narrow gauge railway which carried prospectors on their way and brought gold back to Skagway.

Shore Excursions

King Salmon Fishing Charter - Approx. 4 hours

You can satisfy your sense of adventure while you pursue the illusive King Salmon. The picturesque beauty and marine wildlife makes this a special spot to fish. You will be escorted by professional guides aboard a first class fishing vessel. These chartered boats are equipped with spacious heated cabins, full sized restrooms, and extra large fishing decks that accommodate up to six anglers. All your bait, tackle and fishing gear will be provided. The captains are all U.S.Coast Guard licensed and will be glad to share their fish stories, all of which are true! Snacks and beverages are provided.

Carcross Bus & Rail Excursion - Approx. 8.5 hours

Skagway’s newest scenic bus and rail combination excursion begins in Skagway from the comfort of a Gold Rush Era vintage passenger parlor train car as you are transported through some of the most picturesque panoramic vistas and spectacular remote wilderness of ALASKA and the YUKON! Enjoy a leisurely layover and lunch at the Bennett Train Depot. The depot is nestled in the historic community of Bennett at the end of the Chilkoot Trail and is only accessible by hiking or by train. The serenity of Lake Bennett combined with the complete solitude of the area contributes to a perfect mealtime setting. At Carcross passengers are transferred to a comfortable bus for a visit to Emerald Lake, the most photographed lake in the Yukon Territory. On our return to Skagway you will be entertained by our professional guides with their amusing stories and captivating tales of the Gold Rush Era. All along the return route there will be many stops for viewing and photographing cascading waterfalls, roaring rivers, majestic mountains, glaciers, historic sites, panoramic vistas and the unparalleled beauty of Alaska and the Yukon Territory! Yukon Suspension Bridge and Summit Tour - Approx. 3 hours

This combination Yukon Suspension Bridge and Summit excursion covers the highlights Skagway and beyond, from the summit at Fraser and the Klondike Highway to the Tutshi River and the Yukon Suspension Bridge. The drive up the Klondike Highway, one of the most scenic in North America, parallels much of the railroad and Trail of '98, and features waterfalls and glaciers (weather permitting). Along the route are spectacular views of the railroad as well as historical overlooks. You'll see the Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls, Moore Creek Bridge and more. The Gold Rush will come to life as your guide regales you with tales and history of the era. Upon cresting the summit, we pass into the "moonscape" of the "Tormented" Valley with it's crystal blue Summit Lake, the last remaining watering station for the railroad, Fantail Trail and Log Cabin. Watch for wildlife commonly spotted in the area, such as bear, moose, eagles, goats and sheep. The stop at the Yukon Suspension Bridge offers a fantastic view of the river rapids from 57 feet above, plus story boards that bring the Gold Rush history to life. You can shop for Yukon souvenirs, too. There are plenty of photo stops along the way, so make sure you bring your camera.

Yukon Horseback Adventure - Approx. 6 hours

This is two great trips in one... because on the way out and over White Pass Summit you'll be treated to some of the best sights in Alaska. The mountains, valleys and rivers are beautiful to see. Soon you'll arrive at the Emerald Lake Ranch. We will size you for the right horse and get you on your way for a spectacular 90-minute ride through the Yukon wilderness. Your guide will tell you great stories of the Yukon gold rush while you ride past an old prospector's grass roofed cabin. Are you interested in nature? You've got a chance to spot sheep, moose, caribou, black and grizzly bear. Now here comes the best part of the day... when you get back to the corral we'll have a sweet thing to eat and a cool beverage set out for you. You'll be so happy and content that you'll probably sleep on the motor coach all the way back to Skagway.

Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp & Salmon Bake - Approx. 2 hours

At the foot of the White Pass, nestled beside a waterfall, discover Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp and Salmon Bake. Feast on freshly grilled filet of wild Alaskan salmon along with baked chicken, rice pilaf, a variety of salads, baked beans, cornbread, coffee, lemonade, and dessert. (Beer and wine are available for purchase.) After lunch, wander over to camp and enjoy the waterfall and authentic exhibits of Liarsville. Here a cast of sourdoughs and dance hall girls will entertain you with a hilarious melodrama and a poem by the “Bard of the North,” Robert Service, and teach you the art of gold panning! Then, you will be set free in the Liarsville gold fields, where you are guaranteed to find that precious metal that drove men and women wild with gold fever! Have your picture taken with one of the dance hall girls or the camp’s lovable mascot, an Alaskan malemute named Denali.

Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and Raft Adventure - Approx. 5 hours

One of our most popular trips in the Alaskan wilderness! Enjoy an exciting raft trip down the Chilkat River through the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. This exciting adventure takes you through the site of the world’s largest concentration of Bald Eagles. Your trip begins with a scenic boat cruise across Lynn Canal on our Exclusive Lynn Fjord Fast Shuttle, high-speed boat. We’ll be able to watch for marine life including whales, sea lions and eagles along this rugged coastline. Upon arrival in Haines, you'll enjoy a Nature tour through the " Valley of the Eagles" to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve where you'll meet your river guide. The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve is 48,000 acres dedicated to the preservation of the Bald Eagle Habitat by the state of Alaska. Your experienced & enthusiastic river guide will then take you on your adventure of discovery through the Alaskan wilderness of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve on one of our safe inflatable rafts. Along the way your professional guide will inform and entertain you about the natural history of the area, Chilkat Indian Heritage, and Alaskan stories. Each fall, thousands of Bald Eagles gather along the Chilkat Valley to feast on late runs of spawning salmon, however there are numerous summer residents as well and you will be able to observe them in their natural habitat. Your guide is an expert in spotting wildlife and you may observe brown bears, black bears, wolves, trumpeter swans or moose. Don't leave your camera behind for this adventure! Be prepared to see the natural wonders of the magnificent Chilkat Valley of the Eagles with its stunning mountain peaks and icy blue glaciers. The Chilkat Natives have lived here for thousands of years and you will learn to appreciate their way of life and their concern to preserve this bountiful river valley. Since there is no white water, this float trip can be experienced by everyone aged 5 and over. The entire trip takes approximately 5 hours from Skagway. Bring your camera and sense of adventure! White Pass Rail, Yukon Exploration & Dogsled Exper - Approx. 7.5 hours

This tour features approximately 1.5 hours of train excursion from Skagway to the top of the White Pass Summit and beyond! The remainder of the tour time is conducted in our comfortable air-conditioned tour vehicles. Along the way there will be many opportunities to view and photograph waterfalls, majestic mountains, glaciers, historic sites and the overall pristine beauty of Alaska and the Yukon! Upon arrival at Fraser (Canadian Customs), you will transfer to a comfortable mini-coach and experience the beauty of the Yukon. Travel to Caribou Crossing, Emerald Lake and much more! Enjoy lunch while at Caribou Crossing Trading Post, your choice of BBQ chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, homemade bun, coffee or tea and donuts. Lunch is included as well as a visit to the Yukon Wildlife Museum. Then it's time to hang onto your hat, 'cause we're going dog-sledding! Trust us, these dogs are the real thing! Rested from the long frozen trails of winter, these veterans of the Yukon Quest are eager to show you the strength and stamina it takes to cover up to 150 miles of wilderness in one day. The 15-minute dogsled ride is conducted in a wheeled cart; it is not over snow. Competent and experienced mushers guide the teams and are available to explain dog team travel and history. Skagway River Float - Approx. 3 hours

Experience the thrill of the rugged mountains that surround Skagway along with the legends and tales of the Klondike Gold Rush. An opportunity to view Mother Nature first hand with an experienced guide. The sights visited are the Skagway Overlook, Face Mountain, Long Bay the Chilkoot Trailhead and Dyea Valley.

Yukon Dogsled Experience - Approx. 6 hours

What a great Yukon experience! Miles of pristine wilderness, crystal lakes, waterfalls and glaciers (weather permitting), and the dog sled ride of a lifetime! Your all day Yukon adventure begins by custom airporter-style mini-coach, as we follow the 1898 Gold Rush Trail over the summit and on into Canada's legendary Yukon. As your guide relates the stories of the stampeders and their trials, you'll leave behind the coastal rainforest and enter the subarctic alpine tundra of the "Tormented" Valley - a virtual moonscape! We'll see the White Pass Trail of '98, the Fantail Trail, and Summit & Fraser Lakes before passing back into the boreal forest for Lakes Tutshi and Tagish. View the historic silver mines of Conrad, Bove Island, the native village of Carcross and the Carcross Desert, affectionately known as the world's smallest. Arriving in Carcross, even though the winter snows have melted you can still enjoy summer dog sledding on our custom, wheeled training cart. The approx. 20-25 minute ride will give you the thrill of being whisked along the trail through an area actually travelled by the Gold Rush Stampeders! Great Frontier Experience - Approx. 3 hours

Relive the days of the Gold Rush in one of our most popular excursions. Exciting points of interest and captivating tales are captured in this intriguing tour of historical Skagway and its "gold rush" folklore. Our knowledgeable guides have been recognized for their interesting narrative and friendliness. Witness spectacular scenery encountered as you travel up the Klondike Highway to White Pass Summit. This tour runs parallel to the White Pass & Yukon Railroad route providing fascinating sights of the "Trail of '98", Pitchfork Falls and traversing the unique Moore Creek Bridge. Everyone enjoys the advantage of actually being able to stop at the numerous "photo ops" and breathtaking mountain passes. A visit to the Gold Rush Cemetery, final resting place of the legendary Soapy Smith and other infamous men is one of our bonus stops. Yukon Jeep Stampede - Approx. 4 hours

This guided U-DRIVE JEEP TOUR is a great way to see the highlights of both the Summit and the Yukon - an incredible wilderness area! Motor up the Klondike Highway, enjoying Gold Rush stories along the way on this Yukon mini-adventure. You’ll be driving your own personal Jeep Wrangler up the Klondike Highway, paralleling the train past magnificent waterfalls and spectacular scenery to the summit & beyond. Leave behind the coastal rainforest as we cross the Canadian border into the sub-arctic alpine tundra of the ‘Tormented’ Valley, a virtual moonscape. We’ll then journey into boreal forest past crystal lakes, Log Cabin and the winter Fantail Trail. Stand on the shores of Lake Tutshi and Tagish, encircled by mile high mountains, pose at the Yukon border sign, view the historic silver mines of Montana Mountain. The Yukon is always our best opportunity to encounter wildlife, so we’ll be watching for bears, moose, sheep, goats and more. Yukon 4x4 Adventure Tour - Approx. 6 hours

Our 'Yukon Discovery' tour is an all-day adventure! This 6-hour excursion takes us from the ship's pier, through downtown Skagway, Gateway to the Klondike for thousands of gold rush stampeders, and follow the Klondike Highway, which parallels the original White Pass Trail of '98 into the legendary Yukon Territory. Keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of wildlife, as we enter sub-arctic alpine tundra and the majestic landscape along the vast shores of Tutshi and Tagish Lakes. We will include a visit to Frontierland Wildlife Museum and Heritage Park to enjoy a delicious, hearty lunch. Stops at the Frontierland and Carcross gift shops offer a great opportunity to pick up unique Yukon souvenirs, and eat ice cream North of the 60th parallel. See Waterfalls and Glaciers, Carcross Desert Lake Bennett, Frontierland Wildlife Museum and Zoo. Then, travel back to Skagway, and a convenient drop-off in the heart of the historic shopping district or back to the ship. The tour includes driver guide. Scenic Bus Up / White Pass Rail Down - Approx. 3.5 hours

Gold Rush Hike & Float - Approx. 4 hours

This active tour adds a 1.8 mile hike to the Scenic Float Trip. You will retrace the steps of the Gold Rush stampeeders on the infamous Chilkoot Trail, hiking through a moss-covered northern temperate rainforest. At the end of the one-way hike we meet the rafts for a relaxing river trip on the tranquil Taiya River. The hike is moderately difficult over uneven terrain for the first mile, then on mostly flat ground for the remainder. Please wear sturdy walking shoes.

Glacier Flighseeing & Chilkat Eagle Preserve Raft - Apporx. 5.5 hours

From the start, you know this is special. You will meet your representative right at the cruise ship pier and transfer to the nearby airport. Your view from your plane window during this 1-hr spectacular scenic glacier flight over Lynn Fjord and the northern escarpment of Glacier Bay National Park is truly representative of the powerful beauty Alaska is so famous for. Your pilot lands at the Haines Airport where our van is waiting to transport you on the “Haines Scenic By Way” to our raft put-in spot in the
Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Next step into a river adventure with a scenic float trip on the braided channels of glacier-fed rivers which flow through the “Heart” of the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve near Haines. This flat-water raft trip is a family oriented soft adventure provided by the guiding company that pioneered this tour in 1978 and who’s owner was personally involved with the creation of the preserve in 1982. Several active eagles nests are located high in the large cottonwood trees adjacent to the river’s edge. This tour is recommended for people of all ages who wish to experience one of Southeast Alaska’s most popular day excursions. The preserve encompasses 48,000 acres of some of Alaska’s most spectacular scenery and it is dedicated to preserving the habitat of the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world. During the fall and early winter months upwards of 4,000 eagles congregate in a concentrated area (the heart of the preserve) to feed on the thousands of spawning salmon available to them in this rich ecosystem. In the summer months a substantial resident population of eagles remain preserve and our rafts will quietly float through the areas where you are most likely to view these magnificent birds. Our rower/guides will position your raft to assist you in your efforts to capture that “once in a lifetime” wildlife photograph. Time and water conditions permitting, your guide may stop the raft at a river-bar where you can stretch your legs, view wildlife tracks and photograph the nearby eagles. You can also expect to view the scenic grandeur of glacier-laden peaks rising 7,000 feet directly from the river valley and occasionally we will spot bears, wolves or moose along the riverbanks. After a snack at the take-out site our van shuttles you to the catamaran ferry for a 35-minute crossing to the Skagway Harbor where your ship is moored. The catamaran features indoor view windows around the entire vessel and an upper deck provides maximum outdoor views of the Lynn Fjord’s majestic water falls, sheer rock cliffs that rise directly from the sea, glaciers, as well as the sea life (often sighted: whales, eagles, seals). A naturalist provides narration that includes native history, early settler’s history, and a description of the sights and wildlife viewed in route.

Parallel the original White Pass Trail and view icy lakes, glaciers and magnificent waterfalls. Yukon ATV Tour - Approx. 6 hours

This all-day excursion does it all! Your adventure begins with a scenic drive up the Klondike Highway, one of the highest rated scenic highways in North America. Parallel the train to the summit, cross into the sub-arctic alpine tundra of the Tormented Valley for alpine lakes and mile-high mountains. The boreal forests of Lakes Tutshi and Tagish beckon, as we make stops for photos and the historic silver mines. Hit the dusty trails on your personal two-man all terrain vehicle! The (approx.) one hour ATV ride takes us from the Carcross Desert, affectionately known as the world’s smallest desert, to the shores of mighty Lake Bennett. Hear stories from your First Nations guide about the natural history and the gold rush.
