Haines

At the northern end of the Inside Passage, Located at the northern end of the Inside Passage on the pristine western shores of Lynn Canal, America's longest fjord is Haines, the smaller sister port to Skagway. It is rich in Tlingit culture and is known for the dramatic autumn migration of bald eagles that feed on Chilkat River Salmon. Haines was established in 1879 and grew in the late 1890’s on the back of the Gold Rush but even today can easily be explored on foot.

Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve & Raft Adventure - Approx. 4 hours

Your tour begins with a beautiful 30 mile drive up the Chilkat Valley to the Bald Eagle preserve, where you will board a safe 18 foot inflatable raft for your float trip. This area boasts the world's largest concentration of Bald Eagles, which can be seen perched in the trees and stumps along the shoreline. Above all this beauty the spectacular peaks of the Chilkat Mountains loom high into the sky. Icy blue glaciers tumble from the lofty heights, carving away the mountains, grinding the rock into dust. The tour ends near Klukwan, where the bus will meet you for the return to Haines.
