Home | Cruising Alaska
Alaska, the largest state in the USA, makes a spectacular cruise destination - one like no other - and one whose popularity continues to increase with an expected one million cruise visitors in 2008.
There are two distinct routes for cruising in Alaska - the Inside Passage and the Gulf of Alaska. Which itinerary to choose is a matter of taste. Some people prefer the roundtrip Inside Passage cruises as they don't like the idea of open - jaw flights (flying into one city and out of another) which is generally the case on Gulf of Alaska cruises as it can add to prices. Others don´t mind the open - jaw option as they want to see more of Alaska and the additional glacier visits that the Gulf of Alaska itineraries afford.
The third option is to take a pre-packaged Cruisetour holiday which combines one of the two cruise routes with a land tour extension to ensure you make the most of your trip across the Atlantic.
Inside Passage cruises usually sail roundtrip from either Vancouver or Seattle to the southeast panhandle of Alaska. Cruises usually include famous Glacier Bay National Park, home of 16 magnificent glaciers. Sailing roundtrip often makes your airfare cheaper since you embark and disembark in the same port. Gulf of Alaska cruises are usually one-way cruises sailing either north from Vancouver or south from Seward, the closest port to Anchorage. Adding the south central coast of Alaska to the Inside Passage route offers you the chance to see more of Alaska's spectacular scenery. More Details
To make the most of your trip, why not add a land tour extension to your cruise? The most popular land tours are north of Anchorage into Denali National Park or to the Canadian Rockies, but there are other tours which take in the extreme Arctic north of Alaska or Canada´s Yukon Territory.
